WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR ON TEST DRIVE

When you test drive the car, check the oil pressure when the engine is up to temperature. At least 15psi should be showing at idle on a three-bearing unit (pre-Series V cars), with 50-55psi showing over 2000rpm. The 1725 engine will give 25psi at idle quite happily, with 45psi or more showing at 2000rpm.
Gearboxes often jump out of third gear under acceleration and also listen for wire wheel hubs knocking on acceleration and braking.
